The Wheatley's // A California Foothills Family Session
Last summer, while I was visiting California for a wedding I was photographing, I was asked by my sister to capture some updated photos of her family. Of course, I wasn’t just going to take standard family photos for them, but I wanted to help them create images that spoke to their connection and highlighted the love their family has for each other. My sister and I planned a color palette to fit the location we had in mind, her in a beautiful linen Rachel Pally dress, and her boys and husband in neutral shirts and pants. We took a short drive from their home up to the rolling California Foothills around sunset, when the light would be most golden and warm.
My cute nephews Asher and Julian ran around in the flaxen grass and rolled around on their Gathr mat, giggling all the while. There were one or two small breakdowns of course, as comes with the territory of family sessions, but cuddles were given and moods were lifted again.
Though I don’t plan to shoot as many family sessions in the future, I’m glad I was able to take these photos for my sister’s family, and document this brief moment in their life. We ended the session at their home, the first brick and mortar house they had lived in since their boys were born, which they have since moved out of. I hope these photos always remind them of how special this time was for their growing family.
